Indiana Grantmakers Face Demographics of Aging

June 27, 2009

In recognition of the changing age demographics, Indiana Grantmakers Alliance will help philanthropy throughout Indiana face aging issues head on. IGA recently sought and received a competitive grant for a two-year project called EngAGEment Initiative. This project will provide education and technical assistance to philanthropy in Indiana, helping foundations and other grantmakers assess their positions, develop strategies, and build endowments to meet the challenges and opportunities associated with the aging of the state population.

The first of several regional roundtables of funders met on July 23, 2009 at Minnetrista Conference Center, Muncie, to hear the results of the Indiana AdvantAge Initiative survey for Areas 6 and 9.

On July 30, 2009, the first statewide webinar will introduce the initiative and orient funders to the available AdvantAge data for planning and priority setting in local areas. Phil Stafford will provide an overview of the data and discuss initiatives that local areas can take to begin planning for the future. Marie Beason and Sonya Hallett will discuss EngAGEment Initiative plans for the coming year.
