Indiana University

Stafford to present workshop on communication and dementia

October 25, 2010

It's not a case, but a person, is the title of an upcoming workshop to be held over two 1/2 days on Nov. 29 and 30, 2010. The workshop is approved for case manager credit hours by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), but is also appropriate for front line aging professionals and health care workers. The presenter, Philip B. Stafford, Ph.D., is the Director of the Center on Aging and Community, Indiana Institute on Disability and Indiana University. Dr. Stafford has been active in research, writing, consulting and education in the field of aging for 35 years. A cultural anthropologist, Dr. Stafford focuses on the environments in which people grow old, rather than the intrinsic physiology of aging.

To be held on the afternoon of Nov. 29 and the morning of Nov. 30, this workshop will move participants to a better understanding of barriers to communication with older consumers and persons with dementia. The workshop will combine brief lecture with active participation and audio-visual materials. The workshop will be held at the University of Indianapolis Center for Aging and Community (Fountain Square). The fee for the workshop is $90 per person ($45 per session) and registration is limited to 18 persons. For registration details contact lwagers@indiana.edu or visit the link here.
