Is Indiana Aging Ready?

February 25, 2011

With much attention given to the dramatic changes in age demographics in the U.S., Indiana is moving ahead to open a wide conversation about what all this means for the future. A recent opinion editorial authored by Phil Stafford for the Indianapolis Star provided a glimpse into the future. Testimony provided by a wide range of statewide organizations to the Local Government Committee of the Indiana Senate on Feb. 11, 2011, has helped introduce the concept of Hoosier Communities for a Lifetime, as defined in Senate Bill 023, now being heard in the House. Stafford provided some background testimony on the issues and several speakers represented key stakeholder organizations and interests: Indiana  Association of Area Agencies on Aging, Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, AARP, Indiana Builders Association, Indiana Health Care Association, Indiana Planning Association, The Indiana Grantmakers Alliance, and the Mayor of Linton, Indiana (Tom Jones, President of the Indiana Conference of Mayors).
